Media Remix: Comedy Central

Comedy Central is one of my favorite channels on network television, so when we were given the opportunity to create a collage based on the globalization of media, this network was one of the first to pop into my mind. Comedy Central was started in the early 90's as a subsidiary channel under the MTV Network Corp. MTV owns a variety of different channels in many countries and therefore is a globalized entity in of itself.

Aside from being part of MTV as a globalized network, Comedy Central is also deeply involved with globalization in its production, marketing, and programming. In recent years, Comedy Central has been made available in a variety of countries such as Germany, Poland, and Italy. In the corners of my collage, those flags are made visible to represent all of the different areas and demographics that Comedy Central affects. Comedy Central is also a globalized form of media as a result of the various vehicles that are used to launch Comedy Central and its programming to its viewers. In the collage, there are televisions, magazines such as Rolling Stone with Comedy Central programming on the cover, and DVD's (such as Reno 911: Miami). Comedy Central is available with ease in many different forms all over the world and these are main factors in its globalization. It is also a marketing powerhouse which sells and markets products for its programming that are made all over the world. Its online web store is available to anyone with a credit card and this abundance of merchandise further advertises and promotes the network, allowing it to grow and expand not only in America, but on a national level as well.
